Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has come to the defence of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze following criticism over his missed penalty during Nigeria’s AFCON semi-final loss to Morocco. Many Nigerians took to social media to blame Chukwueze after the Super Eagles crashed out of the tournament.
Nigeria were eliminated on Wednesday after playing out a goalless draw with hosts Morocco before losing on penalties. Chukwueze and teammate Bruno both failed to convert their spot-kicks, while the Atlas Lions scored all theirs to book a place in the final.
Reacting to the backlash, Seun Kuti urged fans to stop blaming the winger, reminding critics that even football greats have missed penalties. “Even Pele dey miss penalty. Leave Chukwueze alone,” as Nigeria now prepare to face Egypt in the third-place playoff, he added
