Additional Holiday: FG declares Thursday, April 11, holiday to mark Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government has approved Thursday, 11th April, 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid -El-Fitr.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, while congratulating the Muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive.

The Minister of Interior Dr. Tunji-Ojo had on Sunday declared Tuesday April 9 and Wednesday April 10 public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr.

But as at late Monday evening there was no sign that the moon had been sighted.

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, after accepting a report by the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religion and the National Moon Sighting declared Wednesday April 10, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH (Eid el Fitr Day).

The statement said: “Tuesday 9th April 2024 is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1445AH.
“His Eminence, the Sultan after accepting the report, declared Wednesday 10th April 2024 as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH (Eid el Fitr Day) accordingly.”
