Trial of Nnamdi Kanu,the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been shifted to tomorrow ,January 19 , 2022.
To enable Kanu who was served with 15 counts amended charge take plea before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court .
Prosecution counsel Shaibu Labaran an Assistant Chief State Counsel who had hoped that the defendant will take his plea on the amended charge on Tuesday said the defence lawyers frustrated the plea taking by the defendant.
He said, however “we would utilized the remaining two days earlier fixed for his trial” before taking future dates,
But Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN who is now leading defence team told the court that the defendant was served with the amended charge on Monday evening. He has not brief his team on the amended charge.
He the defendant also need time to prepare his defence adding that Kanu has been on solitary conferment since his was rearrested.
The trial judge directed the security operatives to allow Kanu enough time to brief his lawyers . She specifically directed Kanu to meet with his lawyers inside the court room for some minutes before taking into custody
