Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims of a godfather–godson relationship with his successor, Governor Uba Sani, stating clearly that he has no personal or political ties with the incumbent governor. El-Rufai made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV on Monday.
According to him, he has not contacted Uba Sani since leaving office and has no interest in influencing or controlling his administration. El-Rufai stressed that he has consistently opposed godfatherism in Nigerian politics, insisting that leaders should exercise power for public good and walk away when their tenure ends.
The former governor also reflected on past political controversies, including attacks he faced after speaking against godfatherism, clarifying that his stance was based on principle rather than personal rivalry. El-Rufai, who has since exited the APC and aligned with opposition platforms, maintained that his position remains unchanged on political independence and governance ethics.
