Nigerian rap icon Jude ‘M.I’ Abaga has revealed how he learned to cope with public pressure and the constant expectations attached to celebrity life. He explained that he had to mentally prepare himself to accept being “broke shamed” so he wouldn’t fall into the trap of proving a lavish lifestyle he couldn’t sustain.
Speaking with Chude, M.I noted that many people — including celebrities — end up financially strained because they keep trying to meet society’s expectations. He stressed that worrying about what fans think, especially regarding material possessions, can push individuals into unnecessary spending.
The rapper added that Nigerians often prioritise perceptions over reality, despite the country’s widespread financial struggles. According to him, many celebrities who once flaunted wealth are no longer as affluent, a lesson that shaped his decision to live on his own terms.
