President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 20th G-20 Summit, as well as his onward visit to Luanda, Angola, following fresh security concerns in Nigeria.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the decision came after the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the deadly attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
The Presidency disclosed that, following a request from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, President Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the police to track down the attackers responsible for the assault on the church.
The President is now awaiting security briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima who visited Kebbi on his behalf as well as reports from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) on the Kwara attack.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to do everything possible to safely rescue the kidnapped schoolgirls and ensure their immediate return home.
