New era of leadership begins at 4 Special Forces Commands General Awolo assumes duty – spokesperson

Following the recent appointments and redeployment that took place within the Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo has assumed duty as the Commander 4 Special Forces (SF) Command.

His assumption of duty ushered in a new era of leadership aimed at strengthening the operational capability of the Command in support of NA operations.

It stated that in his address during the handing and taking over ceremony that took place on Thursday 13 November 2025 at Headquarters 4 SF Command, Doma Nasarawa State, Gen Awolo while appreciating God for the gift of life thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu (NAM) for considering him worthy to serve in such capacity.

Speaking further, the Commander while addressing officers and soldiers of the Command who trooped out in their numbers to receive him said the brief he received from the immediate past Commander Maj Gen Hilary Nzan on the conducts of the troops was highly commendable and looks forwards to seeing that such conducts, including support from all levels of command are reciprocated during his time as Commander.

He charged Commanders at all levels to ensure that every action they take is professionally justifiable and should engender mutual relationship devoid of sentiment and rancour. He said mutual relationship breeds comradeship which the Special Forces troops are known for and is required for the actualization of the entire objectives of the Command.

The Commander who commended the immediate past Commander Maj Gen Hilary Nzan said he will leverage his predecessor’s positive leadership strides to ensure that 4 SF Command is taken to greater hights.

He therefore, encouraged personnel not to relent on their oars as collective efforts will not only improve troops’ performances in the field but will pave way to achieving COAS’ vision which he said focuses more on welfare, training and equipment. He said the COAS has special interest in tactical commanders who are considered first responders to operational demands.

He also thanked the Chief of Staff Brig Gen Murtala Abu, staff officers and affiliate commanders for their steadfastness in running the affairs of the Command prior to his assumption of duty.

Gen Awolo is the 6th Commander of 4 SF Commmand who until his appointment was in charge of Campaign Planning at the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations.

The 4 SF Command has the mandate of executing unconventional warfare across the country as the need arises either acting independently or in support of regular forces has highly mobile and motivated brigades and special operations battalions spread across the country.

Highlights of the handing and taking over ceremony include the decoration of the Commander with the Command’s insignia and handing over of Command Flag by the Chief of Staff who has been overseeing the affairs of the Command following the recent retirement of the immediate past Commander Maj Gen Hilary Nzan.
