Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), North East Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled what would have led to an embarrassing abduction of 74 National Youth Service Corp NYSC members in Borno.
The NYSC members were rescued from a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP abduction attempt along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.
The corps members, made up of 36 males and 38 females, were reportedly rescued at about 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday after their vehicles broke down near a notorious kidnapping hotspot.
It was gathered that a military patrol team was deployed to the area after troops monitoring a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system observed suspicious movement involving three buses at the location.
“On arrival, troops discovered 74 NYSC members stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The troops immediately rescued them to prevent a likely abduction attempt by Boko Haram or ISWAP elements operating in the area,” the report read.
They were accommodated at the Buratai military base while arrangements are being made for their safe movement.
