Hundreds of Islamic groups in Kano State have taken to the streets to protest against U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about alleged Christian persecution in Nigeria.
The demonstrators, who gathered on Saturday, condemned Trump’s threat of possible military intervention, describing it as an attempt by America to control Nigeria’s resources. Protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria” and “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria.”
Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and warned that the U.S. might act if killings of Christians persisted. However, the Nigerian government has dismissed the genocide claims, insisting that the reports are false and politically motivated.
