.Court fixes October 24 for their arraignment
The Chief magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered Nnamdi Kanu’s special lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu the younger brother of IPOB leader to be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre pending their arrangements on Friday, October 24.
Aloy Ejimakor and Prince Emmanuel Kanu were among the 12 persons arrested by the police during #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest on Monday in Abuja.
Others remanded in Kuje custody are Joshua Emmanuel, Bishop Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom , Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, and Godwill Obiama.
The prosecuting authority has on Tuesday taken them to Chief Magistrates Court Kuje for arraignment but it could not take place, as the suspects asked for a stand down, to enable them meet with their lawyers, the magistrate remanded them in the correctional facility, till October 24, 2025, when they would be arraigned.
Daily Times gathered that their lawyers yesterday filed an application for bail, however one of their lawyers Nnaemeka Ejiofor says that they have not been able to serve the application on the Nigerian Police as they have refused to accept the said document.
According to the First Information Report(FIR) sighted by Daily Times, the police have charged them for inciting disturbance and breach of public peace in disobedience to a court order.
The suspects are also accused of denying other citizens the freedom of movement, disrupting free flow of traffic while chanting war songs and requesting for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Security operatives clamped down on the demonstrators, citing a subsisting court order that restricted them from entering certain areas within the city.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had on Friday issued an order restraining activist Omoyele Sowore and others from holding protests in specific locations in the capital, including the Aso Rock Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.
Justice Mohammed Umar granted the ex-parte motion filed by the Federal Government, restricting the demonstrators from certain areas pending the determination of the motion on notice.
