Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to head its Election Observation Mission for Côte d’Ivoire’s forthcoming presidential election. The regional body announced that the election will take place on October 25, 2025, with the mission scheduled for deployment from October 19 to 29 in line with ECOWAS’ Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
According to ECOWAS, Osinbajo will lead a team of eminent West Africans who will engage key stakeholders to promote peace and ensure a credible electoral process. The mission will also work closely with both domestic and international observer groups to monitor and assess the polls.
The deployment, ECOWAS added, demonstrates its ongoing commitment to strengthening democracy, stability, and good governance in West Africa — especially as several countries in the region prepare for major elections in the coming months.
