The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has confirmed that Christopher Nwoye, owner of the controversial Happy Home Orphanage in Asaba, Delta State, has turned himself in to authorities. The agency had previously declared Nwoye wanted for allegedly harbouring children stolen from northern states.
According to NAPTIP spokesperson Vincent Adekoye, more than 70 children, including 15 newborns, were discovered during a raid on the facility in June. Eight of the infants were traced to abductions reported in Kano and Gombe states. Four women claiming to be mothers of some of the children are currently being interrogated.
NAPTIP’s Director-General, Hajia Binta Adamu-Bello, said the agency’s investigation would continue in line with the Trafficking in Persons Act. She assured that all rescued children are in protective care and that DNA testing will determine their true parentage.
