The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has raised alarm over the growing threat of fake news, manipulated images, and deepfakes to Nigeria’s national security and military operations.
Speaking at the Army Public Relations seminar in Abuja, Oluyede said the rise of artificial intelligence and digital technologies has accelerated the spread of misinformation, undermining national cohesion and operational integrity. Represented by Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Abdullahi, the Army Chief urged journalists and public relations officers to counter false narratives with verified information.
He emphasized that modern warfare is now fought both on the battlefield and in the information space, where public trust and accurate reporting play critical roles in the success of security operations.
