The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, following his declaration of readiness to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party clarified that Kwankwaso’s decision is personal and does not represent the NNPP.
Dr. Ogini Olaposi, the National Secretary of the NNPP, said on Monday that the Kwankwasiya Movement had long ceased to be part of the party after its expulsion over alleged anti-party activities. He stressed that any negotiations with Kwankwaso should be done in his individual capacity and not in the name of the NNPP.
Olapsosi further explained that the Memorandum of Understanding between the NNPP and Kwankwasiya ended after the 2023 elections, accusing Kwankwaso of trying to hijack the party. He added that NNPP was now focused on rebuilding its structures ahead of 2027.
