Three members of the Rivers State House of Assembly—Victor Oko-Jumbo, Sokari Goodboy Sokari, and Adolphus Timothy Oruibienimigha—were absent from Thursday’s plenary session, the first since President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency in the state.
The sitting took place at the Assembly quarters, as the main complex remains under reconstruction following its demolition after the October 29, 2023 explosion. The absentee lawmakers were the only ones who stood by Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the peak of the political crisis in Rivers.
It remains unclear if the rift between the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers and the three pro-Fubara members was fully resolved during the peace process. Notably, Oko-Jumbo and Sokari were spotted at the Government House celebration ground on Thursday, where supporters gathered to welcome the governor.
