2027: PDP Weighs Jonathan, Obi, Makinde as Possible Presidential Candidates — Abba Moro

Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has confirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is considering three Southerners as potential flagbearers for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on AIT’s Focus Nigeria programme, Moro listed former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as names already mentioned in internal discussions.

He explained that zoning the presidency to the South has reopened the door for Obi, who left PDP in 2022 over perceived injustice in the zoning arrangement. “Now that the thing has been zoned to the South, he is welcome to join the race,” Moro said.

Moro added that Jonathan remains a “bona fide” PDP statesman, while Makinde, as a serving governor, has also been suggested. He stressed that more names will emerge as consultations deepen, assuring that PDP will present a credible candidate capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
