FG Says No Immediate Plan to Implement 5% Fuel Tax

The Federal Government has clarified that it has no immediate plan to enforce the 5% Petroleum Products Tax as contained in the 2025 Tax Administration Act. Finance Minister Wale Edun explained in Abuja that the surcharge, rooted in the FERMA Act of 2007, is not a new measure under the Tinubu administration.

While labour unions have issued threats of industrial action, Edun stressed that no order is being prepared to enforce the surcharge. He added that the provision requires a formal process and is not an automatic introduction of new taxation.
