Presidency Claps Back at Dino Melaye Over Debt Comment

The Presidency has responded to former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, after his jab that Nigeria might “soon borrow from OPay or Moniepoint.”

Presidential aide Dare dismissed the remarks as “misleading” and “drama-driven,” urging Melaye to brush up on basic economic knowledge. He stressed that Nigeria’s debt-to-GDP ratio (40–45%) remains within a manageable range compared to South Africa’s 70% and Ghana’s 90%+.

According to Dare, Melaye’s comments may entertain the public but fail to accurately reflect the nation’s fiscal reality.
