The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has rejected the Federal Government’s proposed 5% tax on petroleum products, describing it as an “act of economic wickedness.” The union warned that Nigerians are already burdened by subsidy removal, rising fuel prices, inflation, and the weakening naira, insisting the new levy would only deepen poverty.
TUC has issued a 14-day ultimatum for the government to withdraw the policy or face a nationwide shutdown. Labour leaders Festus Osifo and Nuhu Toro said all affiliates have been placed on standby, adding that workers, civil society, and citizens must resist what they called an anti-people plan.
