The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that a coach on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) experienced a hot axle some kilometres before arriving at Rigasa Station in Kaduna.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, explained that the incident, which occurred Wednesday evening, was caused by wheel friction due to abnormal temperature from excessive heat.
According to him, the situation was quickly brought under control, and the train was safely marshalled to Kaduna. However, he noted that the affected coach would create a temporary capacity issue in the business class.
“Passengers booked on the affected coach for Thursday have all been contacted using the details they provided online, and alternative arrangements have been made to accommodate them,” Unyimadu said.
He assured passengers of their safety, stressing that NRC management was working to minimize disruptions and restore normal services swiftly.
“We apologise and regret all inconveniences,” he added.
