Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has said that Muslims remain the worst hit by the unrelenting attacks of bandits across parts of the country.
His reaction follows Tuesday’s deadly attack on worshippers at a mosque in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, where gunmen killed several people during morning prayers. The state government confirmed on Wednesday that the death toll had risen to 32, with several others still receiving treatment in hospital.
In a post on X, Ahmad lamented the rising insecurity, insisting that although the crisis has no religious undertone, Muslims are the most targeted victims.
“At least 27 people were killed and several others wounded when bandits/terrorists attacked a mosque in Malumfashi, Katsina State, during morning prayers,” he wrote.
He criticised narratives that portray Muslims as perpetrators of violence against Christians, stressing that the reality shows otherwise.
“The killings in Nigeria have nothing to do with religion, because if these killers were actual Muslims, they would never dare to take innocent lives, for in Islam, killing one innocent soul is as if you have killed the whole of humanity,” Ahmad stated.
He further expressed support for security agencies battling terrorism and banditry, while praying for lasting peace and stability in Nigeria.
