Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to former political thugs to shun violence, assuring them of his administration’s readiness to help them rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, made the call during a one-day meeting with youth cluster leaders under the Safe Corridor Project.
He emphasized that the era of carrying weapons for political or criminal purposes was over, pledging rehabilitation and placement in safe environments where beneficiaries could become self-reliant. Waiya said each individual would be assigned roles based on their abilities, adding that a fresh verification exercise had begun to update records after the loss of some earlier beneficiaries.
Waiya stressed that the programme was solely aimed at addressing thuggery and other social vices, not for political advantage. The meeting drew key stakeholders, including the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the state NDLEA Commandant, and other partners committed to tackling drug abuse and youth violence.
