The Kano State Government has approved ₦1.3 billion for the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage into a Female Drugs Reformatory Institute, alongside the construction of a standard transit centre in Gaya Local Government Area. The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, after the 30th State Executive Council meeting on Friday, August 8, 2025.
Waiya also disclosed that ₦9.8 billion has been released for the re-award of contracts for the construction of Jaba-Gayawa Road and the dualisation of Dakata-Yadakunya (Bela) Road, costing ₦3.7 billion and ₦6.1 billion respectively. Additionally, the council approved ₦364.5 million for the rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital and ₦294.4 million for the renovation of facilities at the School of Health Technology, Bebeji.
Further approvals include ₦113.9 million for the supply and installation of solar energy systems in five maternity facilities and ₦112.3 million for the supply of drugs to three major hospitals between July and September 2025. Waiya emphasised that these projects align with the government’s commitment to health, infrastructure, and rural development.
