Senate on Tuesday postponed the North-West zonal public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution which was earlier scheduled to hold at the weekend in Kano.
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who announced the postponement, explained that it is in honour of business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata who died on Sunday.
Akpabio informed that the Deputy Senate President and Chairman, Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Senator Jibrin Barau is in Saudi Arabia for the burial rites of the late Dantata.
He said the hearing would be held on a later date as agreed by stakeholders in the region.
He, however, explained that the public hearing on the review of the constitution will take place in the remaining five geopolitical zones.
According to the time table, the exercise will take place in Borno, Plateau, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Lagos States.
The Deputy Senate President joined the delegation to Madina for the burial of Dantata, creating a vacuum in the workings of the committee.
The summit is planned to hold on Friday and Saturday is scheduled as follows, North-Central Crispan Hotel, Plot 9259, opposite Air Force Base, Off Jonah David Jang Express Way, Rayfield Jos; North-East – Mohammed Indimi International Conference Hall, University of Maiduguri, Borno State.
For the North-West, the summit will hold at Bristol Palace Hotel, 54-56, Gudu Abdullahi Road Farm Centre, Kano State, South-East -International Conference Centre, Dome Hall, Independence Layout, Enugu State.
This is as the event in the South-West will take place at Watercress Hotels, 48 Oritshe Street, Off Balogun Bus-stop, Allen, Ikeja, Lagos State, with that for the South-South scheduled to be held at Four Point by Sheraton, Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa-Ibom State.
