The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has declared its determination to unseat Governor Umar Namadi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 governorship election. The party’s deputy chairman, Umar Danjani, made this known in a statement, referencing historical instances where opposition parties defeated incumbents, despite federal backing.
Governor Namadi, who assumed office in May 2023 after securing nearly 60% of the vote, is facing growing political opposition. While the APC maintains that his administration is delivering on its promises, the PDP insists that the people of Jigawa are ready for change and will rally behind a credible alternative when the time comes.
The APC has dismissed the PDP’s claim as political noise, with the party’s state chairman, Aminu Gumel, stating that Namadi’s development agenda has solidified the party’s popularity. However, with the PDP vowing a comeback, political observers say Jigawa is shaping up to be one of the key battlegrounds in the 2027 elections.
