Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerians not to rush to judgment against former militant leader and Niger Delta chieftain, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over a viral video alleging naira abuse.
Speaking during an interview with TVC on Sunday, Olukoyede confirmed that Tompolo has been invited by the EFCC for questioning but emphasized that the case remains an allegation pending investigation.
The controversy arose from a viral clip showing Tompolo dancing during his 54th birthday celebration, while ₦1,000 notes were lavishly sprayed around him—an act considered a violation of Nigeria’s currency handling laws.
Amid growing public pressure and accusations of selective enforcement, Olukoyede clarified that no individual is above the law but warned against public condemnation without evidence.
“Nobody should go and condemn Tompolo for the allegation. It’s a mere allegation for now,” he said.
“We have subjected the video to forensic analysis because these days, people can impose… you know?”
The EFCC boss stressed that fair hearing and due process must be respected, assuring the public that the agency will act based on verified findings.
The investigation continues as the EFCC seeks to determine whether the viral footage was authentic or manipulated.
