The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the federal and state governments to dismiss Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of tertiary institutions implicated in the mismanagement of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). This demand follows reports of institutions engaging in practices such as double billing of tuition fees, withholding loan disbursement announcements, and colluding with banks for personal gain.
NANS President, Comrade Olushola Ladoja, emphasized the association’s commitment to holding accountable those who compromise the integrity of the student loan scheme. He stated that any head of an institution found culpable would face nationwide student-led resistance and calls for removal.
In response to these concerns, NANS has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, May 8, 2025 in Abuja, bringing together all Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents from Nigerian tertiary institutions, NANS executives, and NELFUND officials. The meeting aims to discuss the implementation of the scheme and address the reported irregularities.
The association’s stance underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in the administration of educational support programs, ensuring that the intended beneficiaries receive the full benefits without undue hindrance.
