An Abuja Federal High Court has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to grant administrative bail to businesswoman Aisha Achimugu and ensure her release within 24 hours.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge, gave the order during a brief ruling on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The ruling followed a fundamental rights enforcement application filed by Achimugu’s legal team, challenging her continued detention by the anti-graft agency.
In his decision, Justice Ekwo directed the EFCC to comply with the order without delay and adjourned the matter to May 2, 2025, for a report on compliance.
“The respondent (EFCC) is hereby ordered to grant the applicant administrative bail forthwith and ensure her release within 24 hours,” the judge ruled.
Aisha Achimugu, a prominent figure in the Nigerian business community, was reportedly detained by the EFCC in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial misconduct. Her lawyers have argued that her continued detention without charge violated her constitutional right to personal liberty.
The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the court’s directive.
