The Department of State Services, DSS, and the legal team representing the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu have resolved friction that blocked them from visiting Kanu in custody Wednesday last week.
DSS on Friday allowed family members, legal representatives, and other associates to visit the detained leader of IPOB Kalu who is in its detention facility, for alleged treasonable felony , after previously denying their request.
A legal team, led by Barrister Aloy Ejimakor , Prince Emma Kanu (Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother), Hon. Obinna Ichita (a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly), and other individuals, visited Kanu on Friday.
According to defence lawyers, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains resolute despite his prolonged detention. That it was agreed at the meeting that last Wednesday’s aborted visitation should be put behind them, though a firm stance was taken that such a denial should not happen again.
The DSS had previously blocked an earlier attempt to visit Kanu, after the altercation in court two weeks ago that caused court to adjourn his trial indefinitely.
But the alleged blocked visit by Kanu family members had sparked concerns over his legal rights and welfare. Friday’s visit comes amid sustained calls for his release and a fair judicial process.
