The Kano state Independent Electoral Commission, KANSIEC, has announced a new date for local government election in the state.
KANSIEC said on Friday that the Local Government elections will hold on October 26, 2024.
The electoral body had earlier slated the local governments polls for November 30.
However, the Chairman of the commission, Professor Sani Malumfashi while briefing Journalists in Kano said, the decision to reschedule the date was in recognition and conformity with the recent Supreme Court judgement that granted autonomy to Local Government.
He said, “in recognition and conformity with the recent Supreme Court decision, the mutual agreement between States and Federal Governments and upon the expiration of October deadline on Local Government Financial Autonomy, the Commission is justifiably impelled to reschedule the already scheduled Local Government Election to 26th October, 2024 as against 30th November, 2024.”
The Commission therefore, implored you the stakeholders to understand the compelling situation and give the Commission your most deserving support and cooperation,”
The revised timetable revealed that, campaigns will commence from September 1 to 12 midnight of October 26
According to him, parties primaries and submission of names of candidates to the commission begins September 3 and end on September 26.
The Kano Electoral boss noted that, sales of forms would begin on September 15 to close on September 26, adding that submission of all completed forms would commence on September 27 and end on October 8.
“Verification of candidates by the commission and submission of names of political parties agents starts on October 9 and stop at October 14.”
He disclosed that, election results by the commission would be announced on Sunday, October 27.
Malumfashi also said that the commission slated November 9 for rerun elections.
