Embattled ex- NNPC GMD Andrew Yakubu has lose bid to recover over $9.7m forfeiture to federal government
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the appeal filed by former Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Mr.Andrew Yakubu seeking the release of his monies that were forfeited to the federal government.
The amount in contention totaling the sum of $9.7m United States dollars and £74,000 British pound was found in house in Kaduna by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who later obtained an order from Federal High Court Kano that forfeited the monies to the federal government .
Dissatisfied with the lower court order, Yakubu had unsuccessfully appealed against the said order of FHC Kano to Court of Appeal, Kaduna between 2017-2018
The Supreme Court panel presided over by Justice Mary Odili leading four other justices dismissed application by EFCC seeking to dismiss the appeal for lack of diligent prosecution filed by M.S. Abubakar on 5th November, 2020.
Andrew Yakubu’s lawyer Ahmad Raji (SAN) also told the court that he had filed a Notice of Discontinue yesterday, 14th July, 2021.
Consequently, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal marked SC.639/2018.
