60 PDP lawmakers threaten to defect to APC

As crises in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in some state chapters deepened some of her legislators could no longer bear the cold of opposition, they are now putting finishing touches to their defection.

No fewer than 60 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) members in the House of Representatives have threatened to leave the party if the Acting National Chairman Umar Ililya Damagum does not resign immediately.

They said he should immediately be replaced by someone from the North Central in line with the constitution of the party among other demands.

The lawmakers accused Damagum of handing over the structure of the leadership of the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon Ugochinyere Ikenga, who led five other lawmakers to address reporters at the National Assembly on Monday, delivered the threat on behalf of the 60 PDP lawmakers.

He said the Acting National Chairman, who has been allegedly engaging in anti-party activities, sold the party “for a plate of porridge.”

Ikenga pointed out that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not consistent in opposition over the years, he would have not succeeded as President today.

They said Damagun should go before completely destroying the party.

The lawmakers threatened that if these are not met they would leave the PDP and move to join other political parties.

Another reason for the threat is the crisis rocking the party in Rivers state and 10 other chapters.

Ighodalo, nominates running mate
Ugochinyere, a member of the House from Imo state, and five other members issued the threat at a press conference at the National Assembly complex in Abuja today .

They said they were speaking on behalf of 60 members of the PDP in the House. There are a little over 100 PDP lawmakers in the lower chamber.

“PDP can’t be handed over to the APC. APC officers can’t emerge from our party officials in Rivers or any of the 10 states with alleged imposition of APC interest.

“Let the world know that why they are hell-bent on imposing APC officials as our party caretaker members is to fulfil a planned bigger plot,” Mr Ugochinyere said.
