A broad coalition of artisans, youths, students, businessmen and professionals in Adamawa State has formally endorsed Senator Aminu Iya Abbas as their preferred candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
The endorsement was jointly signed in a joint statement issued on Wednesday in Yola by Comrade Aliyu Liman of the Artisans Association of Adamawa State, Aisha Abdullahi of the Coalition of Adamawa Youth for Good Governance, Engr. Murktar Adamu of the Adamawa Businessmen’s Forum, and Dr. Lawal Abdullahi of the Adamawa Professionals Network.
The groups in the joint statement described the lawmaker as a tested and visionary leader with an unmatched record of service and grassroots impact.
The stakeholders said they were united by a shared conviction that Senator Abbas possesses the experience, credibility and popular appeal required to lead Adamawa State to greater heights.
“We have closely observed Senator Abbas’s unparalleled track record of service, leadership, and transformative impact,” the statement read, adding that his performance has earned him wide respect across the state.
They noted that the senator’s years of public service, particularly his representation of Adamawa Central Senatorial District, have demonstrated a consistent commitment to development, inclusiveness and good governance. According to them, “his dedication to the people of Adamawa Central Senatorial District and beyond has earned him the reputation as a visionary leader who delivers tangible results.”
Highlighting his political journey, the groups recalled that Senator Abbas served two terms in the Adamawa State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2019, where he held several strategic positions, including Deputy Minority Leader, Minority Leader, Deputy Chief Whip, Chief Whip and Chairman of key committees. His rise to Speaker of the 7th Adamawa State House of Assembly from 2019 to 2023, they said, further underscored his leadership capacity and legislative depth.
Since his election to the Senate in 2023 under the PDP, the statement said Abbas has continued to distinguish himself through effective lawmaking and oversight. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation, and a member of 15 other committees, he has sponsored and supported bills aimed at expanding education, healthcare, technology and institutional reforms.
Among the bills credited to him are those seeking the establishment of a Federal College of Health Technology in Song, a Federal College of Education (Technical) in Hong, and a Federal Institute for Technology and Innovation, all in Adamawa State. The coalition also referenced his sponsorship of the National Hajj Commission Act (Amendment) Bill and his motion on electricity billing reform, which was adopted by the Senate.
Particular attention was drawn to his motion on flood control in Adamawa State, which addressed the recurring devastation caused by the River Benue and the Lagdo Dam. The groups said his advocacy for the construction of the Dasin Hausa Dam was a “life-saving intervention” for communities in Fufore, Yola North, Yola South, Girei, Numan, Lamurde and Demsa.
Beyond the National Assembly, the statement highlighted numerous constituency projects facilitated by Senator Abbas, including rural electrification, school construction, water supply projects, road works and solar street lighting across several local government areas. His interventions in youth employment, federal appointments and security recruitment were also cited as evidence of his commitment to human capital development.
The coalition further praised his economic empowerment programmes, noting that thousands of women and youths have benefited from grants, SME support, scholarships and humanitarian interventions. According to the statement, these initiatives reflect a leadership style rooted in compassion, accountability and community-driven development.
They also pointed to his professional background as a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner and forensic expert, describing it as an asset that positions him to manage public resources prudently and fight corruption effectively.
The groups concluded by calling on the PDP leadership to rally behind Senator Abbas, insisting that he represents the party’s strongest chance of victory in 2027. “We call on all Adamawa people to rally behind him and urge the PDP leadership to award him the governorship ticket, as he is undoubtedly the best choice to secure a resounding victory and lead our state to greater heights,” the statement declared.
