The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), says it will deliver its judgments in the three petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). on March 1, 2023 declared Ahmed Bola Tinubu the presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), winner of the general election held on February 25, 2023.
But the INEC result was not accepted by Atiku Abubakar the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party and Peter Obi the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and the party who came distance 2nd and 3rd positions in the election result sheet, respectively.
Atiku and his sponsor PDP, Obi and his sponsor LP as well as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), had in three separate petitions challenged the election praying to the Court of Appeal which has original jurisdiction on the matter to nullify the election.
A five-man panel headed by Justice Haruna Tsammani, Justice John Adah, Justice Misitura Bolaji Yusuf, Justice Bolokuromo Moses Ugo, and Justice Abba Mohammed constitutes the PEPC which began public sitting on five petitions on May 8, 2023.
Two petitioners: Action Alliance (AA) and Action Peoples Party (APP) had earlier withdrawn their petitions in the first week of the public hearing in May and their petitions were accordingly dismissed.
After two weeks of speculations on the date of judgment for the remaining three petitions, PEPC on Monday fixed Wednesday, September 6 as the definite date for judgment delivery in the three petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.
Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Mohammed Bangari confirmed the date to our correspondent on Monday in Abuja.
Bangari whose Court is accommodating the Tribunal said that everything has been put in place to ensure hitch free delivery of the judgment in the three petitions.
They are the petitions filed by the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Atiku and his counterpart in the Labour Party(LP) Peter Obi as well as that of Allied People Movement (APM).
Bangari hinted that adequate security has been put in place and that only the invited members of political parties and the general public would be allowed into the court room to avoid congestion and security breaches.
Live telecast by interested television stations to be allowed at no cost to the Court.
She said that he there would be restrictions of movement around the Court premises for security reasons and to avoid security breaches.
