The Joint investigation Centre Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri Borno State responsible for investigation and clearance of arrested Boko Haram suspects says on Tuesday it has concluded the investigations and recommended 1,440 suspects for prosecution.
The 1,440 suspects are still awaiting arraignment in Court by the Federal ministry Justice out of 1,927 inmates currently at the Centre.
Assistant commander of the Joint investigation Centre Giwa, Captain Olugbeyiga Henry Adeniyi disclosed this when he conducted Defence Correspondents on tour of Operation HADIN KAI around the facilities.
He debunked rumours that the Joint Investigation Centre has ten thousand suspects in its custody . “That is not true, .he said adding that the Centre has never had up to 3,000 suspects in its custody since it was set up”
The Centre has several facilities including tailoring section, tradition cloth waiving section such caps,, soap making and liquid detergent making semi factory for women suspects.
The Centre also house laundry section, fish pounds, rabbits rearing section and other that have kept the detainees busy with craft that would be useful to them when eventually they are integrated into the larger society.
Captain Adeniyi expressed confidence that most of the detainees are regretting their past roles . He said his confidence was sealed from the fact that during the recent bomb explosion when residents thoughts it was an attack ,the detainees told them not to border because they will fight the attackers along side the troops.
But it turned out to be bomb explosion at the armoury .
